Bandem Silver is the best silver shopping experience in Bali. Not only do they have beautiful pieces, but the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. He went out of his way to make me a custom piece for my mother, and then a custom ring for me all within 24hrs. Hands down the only place you should go to get your silver in Bali. Support the locals!
In May, my friend and I were interested in taking a silversmithing class while in Ubud. We were conscious of choosing a place that would offer an authentic and warm environment. I found one TripAdvisor post on silver shopping at Bandem and emailed them to ask if they did classes. And they do! Made came and picked is up (the shop is about 30 mins south of Ubud) and his father (also Made) brought us to the temple where he told us a bit about what each structure meant and then made an offering in the temple for us. It was so lovely and great to learn more about Balinese culture.
It was just me and my friend in the class and we first looked through their shop for inspiration. One of the master silver Smith's (also named Made!-made is the traditional name for the second born) guided us. We felt confident that what we created was going to be beautiful and it was! It was so comfortable there with the activity of the family coming in and out of the shop and was one of my favorite days of our trip. They treated us like daughters.
Such a great time and gave a good perspective on the amount of work that goes into each piece. I felt good spending my money there because I knew it was going right back into the Bandem Silver coop.

Today my fiance and I went to Bandem in search for our wedding rings. There was a young man, Iga, and his mom who helped us. They were so excited for us to be married, and were patient and helpful as we took our time looking through their selection. Their craftmanship was beautiful and the prices were good. By the end of it, we felt like we had made new friends, as they smiled and congratulated us and wished us a successful life together as we departed. Buying from them also supports the community of local silversmiths as opposed to the big tourist trap silver shops, so we felt good about our purchases. Thank you Bandem!
